ABOUT ME:
I studied 3D Design in the early '90s at Manchester Met, specialising in wheel-thrown ceramics under the guidance of Alex McErlain. Over the years, I’ve honed my skills through production throwing and various teaching positions. My focus on Slipware allows me to take an environmentally friendly approach, using local clays that fire at lower temperatures. Now, from my rural Essex studio, I create functional pots that are exhibited across the UK.
MY ARTISTIC PRACTICE:
Inspired by the traditional rural pottery of Europe, my work is deeply rooted in English Slipware traditions. Each piece is hand-thrown and raw-fired to earthenware temperatures, showcasing the natural beauty of terracotta clay. My pots feature slip-trailed and incised decorations, finished with a lead-based glaze, creating a unique textural contrast between raw and glazed surfaces.
